Free Email Accounts

Gmail is the wildly popular free email service from search giant Google. Gmail users are provided a couple of gigabytes of storage, advances spam filtering, the ability to label emails (similar to creating folders), rapid search capabilities within emails, plus access to a free Google Calendar and other Google services. Even if you already have another email account through your internet service provider or school, a Gmail account is a worthy inclusion in the arsenal of any web user.

Outlook.com is, along with Google's Gmail service, one of the two most popular providers of free email on the web. Their system allows you to have a web-based email account that has a number of benefits associated with it, including advanced spam filtering, folder-based organisation and a full calendaring system to help you schedule your day - and all for free. Once you have signed up, you are given a special password and username that enables you to send and read your email from any computer with internet access, whether you own the device or not, and your mail is securely stored on Microsoft's bulletproof infrastructure. Not a bad deal, I'd say.

Mail.com provides its users with what are undoubtedly some of the most valuable, and most memorable, domain-name email addresses. Choose from more than 50 domain extensions, including @email.com, @mail.com, @cutey.com, @europe.com, @consultant.com and @usa.com. They even have a range of specialty extensions available, such as @elvisfan.com. This free service, originally launched by NBCi but now part of the 1&1 Mail & Media network, also features a clear, multi-faceted web-based control interface through which to manage all of your custom email settings.

Yahoo! Mail also remains one of the Web's most popular web-based free email platforms, despite the relative invisibility of the once-mighty Yahoo! web directory. This free email service is remarkably reliable and user-friendly. Many assert that Yahoo!'s free email system is on-par with Gmail and Outlook.com in terms of usability, for those who don't have particularly advanced customisation needs. Each account comes equipped with abundant free storage and free spam filtering and virus scanning built-in.
